New Myspace Coming Soon

Do we all remember Myspace? Seems like forever since Myspace has been mentioned. Well they’re coming back to us new and improved according to the New architects who will be rebuilding the brand from the ground up. Tricky if you ask me.

This is without a doubt an arduous task for this duo, since the public already has a perception of this brand it might be difficult to change but who knows maybe they can succeed.

They say the project’s goal is to bring the site back to its simple core values of music and artist discovery. They want the new Myspace to be visually captivating enough to keep and gain new users, so they’re incorporating a design reminiscent of Tumblr and Pinterest.

Do you see this working for Myspace?

Super Niche Product, Facebook or No Facebook

So I read an article on Mashable today that wanted to know if it would be a good idea to have a large scale social network such as Facebook for a tightly niched product. My response HELL YES!!

In todays world all social media is important for any type of product that’s available. Just because the product is in a small specific niche plays no importance. People want to feel connected to the product or brand and this is done through social media.

I may just be seeing this the wrong way but I don’t think so. What do you guys think??

Another one succumbs to advertising.

Ahhh slowly but surely all these social networks are getting worked! Yes believe it or not your Tumblr is ad-free no more ladies and gentlemen. On Monday, 22nd Tumblr announced that it will now serve ads on its Iphone and Android apps.

The move allows Tumblr to take advantage of the rapidly growing mobile advertising market, forecast to increase by 65% to $2.1 billion in the U.S. alone this year.

To me this is a very solid decision. While people love having these social networks they sometimes forget that somewhere somehow something has to be paid for! And hey if seeing a couple ads ensures that I’m able to continue to use these sites for free then I say why not?

Earth’s very Own Facebook?

It’s Earth Day people and we should appreciate this beautiful planet we live on. How would you all feel if the Earth became more social? Yes I’m talking about the Earth having a facebook. What are some of the things you would include or put on it’s timeline?

To see some of the work done in this attempt check out this comic by Nitrozac and Snaggy at The Joy of Tech imagine Spacebook, the solar system’s social network, and all the entities that would use it. (Who knew Mars was so conniving?) Sounds pretty cool to me.

Facebook is after your Pockets!

Facebook is after its users money now. This should come as no surprise to anyone since its been a longtime coming. The Billion plus users on facebook now has the opportunity to message celebrities personally, granted they have to pay of course.

This is all part of Facebook’s pay-to-message-celebs program which was launched back in december. The program has now been expanded into the UK and 36 other countries, according to The Guardian. “It is being tested among a very small percentage of users.”

I don’t see this program taking off, users aren’t able to reach certain celebrities like Rihanna and are forced to pay from 1$ to message people they don’t know to 100$ for prominent figures like Mark Zuckerberg. This maybe just me but I don’t see a lot of people willing to pay all that money to possibly be responded to by a PR person of some sort.

Facebook is putting up a good fight.

Since the launch of facebook most people like myself were excited. Here we were a social website which came along and established its dominance as a social network that catered to a lot of our online needs to connect.

Fast forward a couple years, if you’re anything like me Facebook has now become dull and simply un-entertaining. With over a billion users and users like myself Facebook must now find ways to stay on top and constantly find ways to keep the audience interested.

This brings us to their newest thing “Facebook Home” -a new homescreen and app launcher for Android — and the release of the first-ever Facebook phone manufactured by HTC. Yes Facebook now wants to have a larger presence in the mobile department. This seems a bit late to me but can prove to be beneficial by allowing facebook to improve its mobile ad targeting. It might not do as well as they hope but then again it can prove to be a great platform for ads targeting mobile users. Only time can tell I suppose, in the meantime we can look forward to the impact this will bring to social media.
